Yeah! Dress comfortably, I'll see you then!

[Even "comfortable" dress for Franciscus is probably more formal than most people are used to. Still, at least he's not wearing an actual suit to the dinner. After some crooning and nudging from Gerard, though, the Archeops now has a tie of his own tied around his neck, with colorful feather designs on it. At precisely 8 PM, he's knocking on her door, a small tin of shortbread in one hand.]

[Airy isn't dressed all that fancy. She's wearing a pair of jeans and a long sleeve dark teal shirt. Her hair has been tied up behind her head and she's barefoot.] Welcome! [She opens the door all the way to let both of them inside.]

Oh, please take off your shoes and Gerard... well, I guess wipe your feet.

[He can't take off his feet, that would be weird.]

I found red snapper at the store and I'm excited. So I made that with broccoli and scalloped potatoes. I hope that's all okay.

[Franciscus slips his shoes off and steps in, while Gerard shuffles around a bit, hopping up and down on the welcome mat to get the dirt off before cautiously stepping through the door.]

That sounds like a fine combination. Gerard is fond of scalloped potatoes as well, especially the type with cheese. [He blames Jimmy for introducing him to pizza and getting him addicted to dairy.]

Don't worry, there are cheddar on these and garlic and they are deliciously fried. [Scalloped potatoes were best if they were crispy on at least one side.]

Take a seat at the table. I left a side open for Gerard. I didn't know if he'd want a chair or a pillow or nothing. So let me know or just take whatever you want from the family room.

[Airy likes being a good hostess.]

Would you two like something to eat?

[Gerard seems to brighten up at the words "cheddar" and "fried," making Franciscus chuckle.] He usually has a perch, but he can stand on the floor as well. [Especially since he's now much larger. As an Archen, he needed the perch much more.]

If you have anything available. [He holds out the tin of shortbread.] I also thought I should bring something myself, for dessert perhaps. [It felt rude to just come for dinner without bringing any sort of contribution.]

Okay, cool, because yeah, I don't have a perch. [She has a chair or a stool but nothing that's strong enough to hold a bird of his size without potentially breaking... Unless he can sit on the seated part of a chair? That seems too complicated.]

Oh, thank you. I only have left over Christmas cookies for desert so this is definitely better. [Desert hadn't been her main focus.] Take a seat. Dinner will be ready soon.

Do either of you want something to drink?

Water is fine for Gerard. I suppose I'll take a glass of wine if you have any available, but otherwise I'll just have water myself as well.

I have wine. [She pauses briefly.] And water.

[Since Gerard doesn't have hands... Airy decides to get him a large bowl of water instead of a glass. Hopefully it isn't too cumbersome and he'll be able to drink it.

For her and Fran, she gets two glasses of velvety red wine.] I'm just waiting for the potatoes to finish. They have five minutes or so. If you want to sit at the table I can start setting everything up.

[The bowl seems to work fine, Gerard lapping at it slightly, making sure not to splash too much over his face. Franciscus nods, taking the glass carefully and holding up his tin of shortbread.] Should I just place this on the table as well, or would you prefer to set it aside while we finish up dinner?

[Airy takes a sip of her wine as she begins to step lightly between the kitchen and the table. She grabs them plates, utensils, water glasses and then decorates the table with salt, pepper and other condiments. There is a bright collection of daisy's at the center of the table while cute dark green place mats decorate each seat.]

The table is big enough that you can set it on there. I'll probably get us new plates but it shouldn't be an issue.

[She lives in her townhouse alone and it's clear that everything is sized for a small family.] I hope you're hungry because this might be a lot of food. [Airy sets out the vegetables and the fish. Once the timer goes of the potatoes are brought out too.] There, that should be everything. Do you need anything else?

[Franciscus swirls the wine in this own glass and takes a small sip. He places the tin down, carefully arranging it to look neat and in line with the rest of the table layout. He lets out a soft, pleased sigh as the food comes out.] I'm sure Gerard will be happy to finish whatever we don't. [Indeed, the Archeops is already staring intently at the fish, as if preparing to literally pounce on it.] And I believe this is all sufficient. Do you typically say grace before meals?

[imaginationswoes]

I do but you don't have too.

[Airy fills up Gerard's plate first.] And Gerard is welcome to eat as much as he likes. It'll be nice to have less to clean up. [She fills her own plate and then settles into her seat. Her eyes drop and she mumbles a soft phrase beneath her breath.

When she's done, her eyes open and she smiles.]

[Franciscus doesn't say grace, but he does wait for Airy to finish before he starts on the food, taking an equal portion of each. Gerard just tears into his fish, taking rather large gulps and licking the grease off his jowls. He lets out a pleased "Che!" after the first bite, while Franciscus takes smaller, more sedate bites.]

It's good. Especially these potatoes. [Being fresh out of the oven probably helps a lot.]

[Airy's head turns and a bright happy laugh rumbles through her throat.]

I'm glad you like it Gerard. [She takes slow careful bites of the meal and her smile shifted into a wistful little grin. She misses having people to eat with like this. It's been a few months of living alone and Airy doesn't think she likes it. She's always been surrounded by people.]

Thanks. My mom taught me how to cook. This is pretty simple. You just toss everything together and toss it in the oven. The only key to the potatoes is to wash a lot of the starch off first. That's how they usually end up drying out in the oven.

[Gerard gives another happy chirp in response, while Franciscus chuckles a bit as well.] I see. Still, it is quite the tasty combination. I'm guessing that washing off the starch goes beyond simply rinsing them off once? [He takes another careful bite, noticing that they are pretty tender.]

Yeah, I usually put them in a bowl and swish them under running water for a bit. It just stops the starch from doing weird things in the oven. [She is not a scientist.]

Do you like to cook?

[She thinks she'd asked this before but Airy really doesn't remember. Everything at Stacy's had been a blur... except for Gerard. She remembers him.

Airy takes a few more bits and falls into a steady rhythm of eating and drinking between bits and pieces of the conversation.]

[He shakes his head.] I never had a chance to really try it. We had cooks when I was growing up, and while I was traveling it was either easy-to-prepare fare, or ordering from various other places when we had thee time. [So he can boil water, but that's about it.]

[imaginationswoes]

Do you want to learn to cook?

[She takes a sip of her wine before placing the glass back on the table. Her pace is slowing and Airy's internally debating how much more she can eat while still leaving room for Fran's desert.]

I can teach you. If you want. Usually if you follow the recipe it's not to hard.

[silvertongueheir]

[A pause, as he considers. He's mostly been eating out, since he can actually afford it. But...he remembers Osomatsu's jealousy when he mentioned this dinner. Maybe...he could make it up to him that way?] I think that would be useful. What recipes do you have in mind?

[imaginationswoes]

I don't know.

[Airy lifts her shoulders in a shrug.]

I'd say something that you really like but I remember that you hadn't been super specific when I first asked so it's really whatever you want. [After all, it'd be for him.]

[silvertongueheir]

Hm. [He pokes at his food, nibbling a bit more.] I suppose since you've already begun explaining, I might as well learn how to make these potatoes.

[imaginationswoes]

I can do that! It isn't that hard though we should probably do it another time since I'm very full and we'll have to eat what we make.

[Which was cool. Airy likes having people over.]

[silvertongueheir]

[He nods, smiling.] Of course. Today's meal has been quite sufficient for both of us. [Gerard croons happily in agreement.]

I'm glad. I'm all done. Want me to get new plates for desert?

I figured I could make us some coffee too. Coffee and pound cake always do well together.
