imaginationswoes | New York || Day 1

[Running is the current plan but it isn't going well. She's constantly getting lost and she's reminded again and again that she's never been out of her small town alone. She misses her family and her friends but more than that she is really missing a warm bed. Her feet continue forward, the tall buildings towering on either side of her. It's impressive, as far as cities go, but its to close together.

To much can go wrong.

She must of made a wrong turn because Airy finds herself walking along a very shady part of town. Winter is setting in but she thinks of warmth and she manages to keep herself heated. She has a backpack around her shoulders and it looks like she's wearing a uniform: white button down, green pleated skirt, black jacket and a matching tie. It's most definitely giving some of the people here the wrong idea.]

Shit.

[Airy whispers softly under her breath, a puff of white leaving her warm lips. When she spots two men pointing towards her she runs. Her feet fly across the street and she's about 75% sure they weren't following her. Mist descends on the area and Airy one again curses under her breath. She's only getting more lost at this rate and running around New York after midnight isn't on her to do list.]

[Airy shrugs looking down at her arm. It's still bandaged and stained with a dark maroon red.]

I didn't want to hurt anyone... figured it was better if I didn't exist.

[She really wishes they were there though that wouldn't really stop the conversation.]

[He frowns, concerned.]

You know, so far, the only person I've seen you hurt is yourself.

[He doesn't say anything for a moment, just letting the sound of the road pass.]

Did you? Hurt anyone, I mean.

[Airy lets out a soft sign before looking out the far window.]

No but they haven't come to look for me so they probably don't miss me.

[As far as she's concerned the conversation is over and she can't even remember where they were going.]

[He continues to frown, turning off in the direction of the market district of Soho.]

How long have you been gone?

[Airy is silently for a very long time before she finally answers.]

A few weeks.

[She doesn't like lying.

Airy let out a soft breath of hair before looking at Nathan with a hopeful gaze.]

Can we talk about something else? I don't want to talk about home... What about favorite animals, colors or awkward experiences?

[If they are heading towards a Zoo.]

[Nathan can take a hint, albeit late.]

Uh, sure. Favorite animal, huh? [He shrugs, looking thoughtful.] Okay, I have different favorite animals. It depends on what they do. You first.

Wombat... um... Otters and Stag's.

[She looks over at him with a quick glance.]

Now you.

[Of course she's left out the why of her choices but that doesn't seem important.]

[He's quiet for a moment, watching the road, looking for the parking garage, and trying to piece together the selection.

Eventually he pulls into the garage, takes the ticket from the booth and goes about finding a parking space, but looks over to her for a moment.]

Okay. I think I get the wombat and the otter. They're cute. Why a stag?

[Airys smile widens. One, because they are here. Two, because she really likes Stags.]

Stags are large, proud and strong creatures. They protect those they care about and are very fierce while remaining cautious and kind.

They're pretty great.

[He looks over to her as he gets out of the car, clearly impressed, though he cracks a smile along with it.]

Wow. That's a lot to live up to.

Hey!

[She quickly removes herself from the car and peers over the roof.]

What's that mean? [She pouts slightly.] And you didn't tell me your favorite animals.

[He smiles, looking away while shaking his head.] Nothing, just...thinking.

[He clears his throat.]

Fennec foxes and...mountain goats.

[Airy doesn't understand what he's thinking so she just moves on.]

Why those two?

[She steps up next to him walking at his side as he leads them from the parking garage.

Have you ever seen a mountain goat? They're...a lot like stags, except they choose to live at the top of mountains. They can even walk on ice with hooves.

They fight off wolverines.

[He shrugs, looking straight ahead rather than at her.]

And...fennec foxes are adorable.

[She hadn't considered that.]

That is also true.

[Airy accepts his reasoning. She hums softly tilting her head to the side.]

Maybe I should amend my list. [She just really likes forests which is why she likes Stags.]

[He laughs as he leads them up to the street which is lined with shops with condos over them.]

You can't take my favorite animals. They're mine. You have your own.

[Airy squints at Nathan.]

I don't think it works that way.

[If he doesn't want to share then she doesn't want them anyway. Her's are better than his and that's that.]

[He smirks, shoving his hands in his pockets. The hot dog cart he was heading to was another two blocks away.]

It does if I say so.

[Airy laughs softly.]

I don't think it works like that either.

[Except she smiling at him before looking at the path in front of her. There are a lot of people in New York and she finds herself walking behind Nathan or at a weird 45 degree angle from him.]

[He reaches back to take her hand, because it's easy to get lost in the crowd, to keep her near him and falls back to her side.]

Okay, so how do you think it works?

[Airy isn't opposed to holding hands however she becomes acutely aware how small her hand is compared to his. Her thin fingers lightly curl against his palm and she feels a nervous flutter in her chest. Though she doesn't know if Nathan is the cause or the crowded streets. She gravitates close to his side letting him lead her while her eyes watch the crowd around them.]

I think that anyone can like what they want. [She smiles towards him before looking back at the crowd.]

You're just a reason I like it.

[She isn't completely sure what her point is. Though she's realized while talking that her powers haven't been noticeable since leaving the house and for a moment she's glad. She had been to focused on Nathan and the conversation to suddenly imagine anything at all.]

Me? [He laughs at that, not sure he actually believes her.] How can I be the reason you like it?

I like your reason.

[She doesn't think it's all that complicated or strange. She hopes it isn't strange... she isn't sure why she cares if that's strange all of a sudden.

It's just be better if she was normal.]
