imaginationswoes | New York || Day 1

[Running is the current plan but it isn't going well. She's constantly getting lost and she's reminded again and again that she's never been out of her small town alone. She misses her family and her friends but more than that she is really missing a warm bed. Her feet continue forward, the tall buildings towering on either side of her. It's impressive, as far as cities go, but its to close together.

To much can go wrong.

She must of made a wrong turn because Airy finds herself walking along a very shady part of town. Winter is setting in but she thinks of warmth and she manages to keep herself heated. She has a backpack around her shoulders and it looks like she's wearing a uniform: white button down, green pleated skirt, black jacket and a matching tie. It's most definitely giving some of the people here the wrong idea.]

Shit.

[Airy whispers softly under her breath, a puff of white leaving her warm lips. When she spots two men pointing towards her she runs. Her feet fly across the street and she's about 75% sure they weren't following her. Mist descends on the area and Airy one again curses under her breath. She's only getting more lost at this rate and running around New York after midnight isn't on her to do list.]

[Airy has never watched Sex and the City and she's completely okay with that.]

All of that? [She looks a little impressed and then a little sheepish.]

Do you think we can go there?

[She has no idea if they have time today but it would be fun to go to a zoo and an amusement park.]

Though it's probably really expensive.

[He nods. He didn't see why not.]

Yeah, we can. How about after lunch?

[She has to make an effort not to think about it and risk animals appearing outside or inside the car.

Airy looks over him squinting slightly. Part of her is super excited and really wants to go but then there is the rational part of her in her head telling her that she's broke.]

I don't really have a lot of money.

[She is a run-away.]

[Nathan nods, looking back to the road.]

That's really not a big deal.

Okay

[Airy eyes him for a moment before looking back towards the road. There is something hypnotic annoy watching the road fly away.]

Are we close?

To Soho? No. We need still to cross the bridge.

[He pointed forward toward the toll bridge they were currently in traffic waiting for.]

[Airy lifts herself from her seat slightly and watches as the bridge approaches. Eventually she flops back down, her fingers lightly drum against the seats looking out the windows while her mind wandered.

Does it always take this long?
I wonder where we are headed or at least what it's like...
Why does Nathan want to take me there?
Why the park?
I guess because I'll be leaving soon... but where do I go.
I don't really want to leave.
I like Nathan and Antonio... but I don't want to hurt them.
I'll hurt them if I say.

Her teeth bite into her lower lip before looking out her side window.]

Does it usually take this long?

[If the days over quickly she won't miss it... right? She looks towards the side of the road watching the other cars slowly crawl forward.]

I wonder where everyone is going...

[At that moment, he pulled up to the toll booth's scanner. It scanned the barcode on his rear window and the gate opened and off they went.]

Depends on the time of day. It's not far now.

Sometimes it feels like people are born to stand in lines.

[Her voice is quiet like an afterthought to something else. Her emerald green eyes flick towards the city attempting to memorize every bit of the city that she can. She wishes her phone was charged.]

How long have you lived in the city? Did you grow up here?

[He nods.]

Yeah, I grew up here, up in the Bronx, actually.

[Airy looks over surprised.]

You did? What was it like?

[Seh can't imagine growing up in a big city like this.]

Uh...self-contained? The Bronx is up north, and like a small city by itself. I think I only went to Manhattan twice when I was a kid.

[He shrugs.]

It's a nice community, though. There's a lot more green there, lawns. That kind of thing.

[Airy smiles.]

That sounds nice. It's what I'm used to too.

[He shrugged.]

Then I went to college in LA, thought I'd be a big actor. Turns out it's a pretty cut throat business.

[Airy hadn't had the chance to go to college and she regrets missing it. Not that she knew what it was like or had any idea what she'd study there.

She kept her eyes outside the window watching whatever she could pull her gaze to.]

I'm glad you aren't cut throat like that.

[because she likes him like this.]

[He smiles at that. He'd always been a pretty easy-going guy. Now, though, it seemed like his father might have been right about a lot of things. His smile faltered some at that thought.]

Yeah, well. So, I came home and tried to get into the theater scene. Turns out it's pretty cut throat, too.

[Airy forces her gaze away from the window, her heels lightly tapped against the car floor.]

So what did you do next?

[He became an actor or at least she thought so.]

I got into some improv shows, a few small stage, community numbers.

[He glances over to her, smiles again, and shrugs, looking back at the road.]

That's where I met Tony, actually.

[Airy smiles when he smiles unable to do herself.]

Guess he was looking for himself.

[Which sounds funny.]

What did your parents think about acting?

[She's pretty sure her parents would be very against the idea. Then again they didn't seem to mind her running away from home.]

Dad hated it and mom just went along with what he said. [He takes a deep breath before continuing.] My big brother's the golden child. Big shot lawyer, just like dad.

[Airy wrinkles her nose.]

A lawyer... that sounds so... stuffy.

[She can tell that she's dipped into a sensitive topic but she isn't sure how to make their conversation more light hearted. She leaned forward slightly looking out the front windshield.]

You know... I think that makes the fact that you followed your dream even more impressive. It's hard enough to do but you did it on your own. [She looks over with a wide smile.] That's pretty great.

He is stuffy, trust me. [He scoffs.] They both are.

[He raises an eyebrow at that.] Impressive, huh? Sometimes I wonder if I didn't do it just to spite him.

[Airy smiles looking over at him while restraining a soft giggle.]

Impressive. Promise

[She smiles at him before looking towards the path in front of the car.]

Sometimes reasons are crazy but you still did it and... I do a lot of stuff out of spite. [Airy is the type of person who does things just because people say she can't. It isn't a bad thing, only a different for of motivation.]

[He smiles, glad for the support. Aside from Antonio, he's never really gotten much for it.]

They all said I'd never make it. [He shrugs.] I guess in a way, they were right, but I guess I never crawled home like dad said I would, so there's that.

[Airy is so worried about this conversation getting awkward but Nathan seems well adjusted; which she likes.]

That's always a plus.

[She pauses for a moment.]

I ran away from home...
