imaginationswoes | New York || Day 1

[Running is the current plan but it isn't going well. She's constantly getting lost and she's reminded again and again that she's never been out of her small town alone. She misses her family and her friends but more than that she is really missing a warm bed. Her feet continue forward, the tall buildings towering on either side of her. It's impressive, as far as cities go, but its to close together.

To much can go wrong.

She must of made a wrong turn because Airy finds herself walking along a very shady part of town. Winter is setting in but she thinks of warmth and she manages to keep herself heated. She has a backpack around her shoulders and it looks like she's wearing a uniform: white button down, green pleated skirt, black jacket and a matching tie. It's most definitely giving some of the people here the wrong idea.]

Shit.

[Airy whispers softly under her breath, a puff of white leaving her warm lips. When she spots two men pointing towards her she runs. Her feet fly across the street and she's about 75% sure they weren't following her. Mist descends on the area and Airy one again curses under her breath. She's only getting more lost at this rate and running around New York after midnight isn't on her to do list.]

[Airy hums softly before turning her shoulders to face Nathan.]

Forward: yes...

[She pauses chewing on her lip.]

...but what is this something?

[He smiles.]

You know what kind of focus you need to make it go away, then, right? Have you tried...focusing on making them go away before they show up?

[Airy just blinks at his smile and it takes her brain a few moments to catch up.]

Well I focus on something else. So how would I know if it works if that something else doesn't happen.

[She'll usually chant something if it's really bad which hasn't happened in at least two days.

With her last words hanging in the air between them Airy takes a deep breath. She closes her eyes to focus and as she does the flowers around them slowly vanish. It takes a lot of work to focus on nothing and in her effort her mind slips.

Between them is a long rattlesnake with it's belt black eyes fixed on Airy. Its tail echoes a haunting sound as her eyes snapped open and lock on it.

Shit.]

[Well, this is not the first impression he wanted to make on her at all.

He screams, like a little girl, and is off the sofa faster than anyone would give him credit for accomplishing.]

[Airy froze when Nathan panicked and jumped from the couch. Luckily the snake doesn't seem to be interested in him as it's head began to sway back and forth, its eyes trained on the one who called it. Airy tries to stay calm and force the snake to vanish.

The snake has other plans.

It lunges at her with it's teeth bared. She screams throwing up her arms to shield her face. Before it vanishes it's teeth sink into her arm sending a searing heat down to her finger tips and up her shoulder. There is a faint blur of red dripping down her arm as she stands and runs for her bag.]

I'm so sorry.

[She feels horrible that she let that happen and it could have been Nathan who got hurt. Her finger reach for the door handle and she winces when she realizes her fingers on her right arm don't want to work.]

I should leave. I'm so sorry.

[Nathan shook his head, clearing it of the initial freakout.]

Airy, stop. [And he frowned in concern, watching her fumble with the door.]

...what's wrong?

[Airy shakes her head feeling the sting of the snakes bite even though it's gone.]

It could have hurt you. I shouldn't be around anyone.

[It'll become very obvious to Nathan that there is something wrong with her right arm. It's bleeding and staining her once white button down shirt.]

But it didn't, it hurt you.

[He shook his head.]

Don't go anywhere. I'm pretty sure I have a first aid kit around here somewhere.

[Airy lets out a huff but continues to stand by the door.]

Okay...

[She knows she can't explain running around with a snake bite on her arm.

Airy moves over to the counter looking down at her arm. She slips out of her button down and carefully peels off the part matted to her arm.]

I liked this shirt...

[He comes back pretty quickly, and with a minor first aid kit. It's not really that impressive, but it's what he's got.]

We'll get you a new shirt. [He waves her over to the small table off the kitchen.] Sit down. Do...was it poisonous? Can your illusions poison you?

[Airy laughs awkwardly.]

I don't know. This is a first.

[She doesn't think so considering the snake is gone now; the poison should be gone too. She also doesn't remember if rattlesnakes are poisonous.

Either way Airy moves to the table and gently places her arm out for Nathan to see. It doesn't look good and she ends up looking up at him with a bit of a hopeless expression.]

Have you done this before?

[It was deep, which he thought was a little weird, but he wasn't exactly trained in any of this, so instead he just frowned for a moment.]

Uh...no. I haven't at least...not for a snakebite.

[Airy watches Nathan feeling a little dismayed.]

Do you know what you are doing?

[She doesn't really have another option but she looks worried and it hurts more than she thought. It takes every ounce of effort not to cry, though tears begin to brim as if ready to spill over.]

Yeah, I mean, I've had cuts and scrapes before.

[He looks up to her, uncertain.]

Hey...do you want me to take you to a doctor instead?

[Airy shakes her head and then swallows the lump in her throat.]

No... I can't be found. Just bind it tightly so the tissue is close together and it can scare.

[She absently wonders if this will be a problem when Antonio wakes up. She has no idea how heavy of a sleeper he is.]

[He nods, not liking where this is going, but not really having a choice in the matter, either.

He sets about getting some anesthetic to clean the wound, first.]

This might sting a little.

[Airy looks up at him and doesn't look happy.]

It already stings.

[She swallows trying to steel herself from what comes next. Her free hand clamps against the edge of the counter as she braces herself. She doesn't want to scream but she is a normal girl and it's used to this kind of pain.]

I'm ready.

[Nathan isn't so sure, but he wets a piece of gauze and starts about cleaning her wound, already wincing at the pain he's going to cause her.]

[Airy lets her head fall to the counter and bites her lip. She can taste the copper taste of blood in her mouth as pained moans fall from her lips.

This really sucks.]

Can't you work faster? Please?

[Her tone is soft as if she's begging him to make it stop hurting.]

Well, yeah, but I don't want to hurt you any more than I already am.

[He does his best, though.]

[Airy chances looking up at Nathan. She is close to tears and her teeth are digging into her lower lip as she holds back her tears.]

It feels like my arm is on fire.

[She really isn't used to pain.]

[He nods, grimacing right along with her.]

I know. It'll be over soon, though.

[Airy is trying not to set things on fire but it burns. Like every nerve ending is being stripped and grated along a rough surface. Fire appears in her thoughts but she quickly tries to hold it back.

Each movement of his fingers cause emotions to push higher. Her heartbeat frantically keeping a quick rhythm in her chest while the burning trails up to her shoulder and then down to her fingertips. Airy slowly begins to chant beneath her breath trying to control herself as he finished bandaging her arm.]

Cool... it's cold. Rain... not fire.

[Nathan started reaching for the first aid kit to get some aspirin when the first droplets of rain started to fall.

In the apartment.

Airy, hey. Look. Airy, it's raining.

[His voice snaps her eyes open and she looks up feeling the soft cold drops of water hit against her cheek. She feels a tear fall and then the rain beings to pick up.]

W-what?

[It feels like cold daggers against her skin and she looks over at Nathan.]

Sorry...again.

[Except this time she doesn't feel to bad because she can at least cry about her arm without him noticing.]
